History of CFUMC

In the beginning…

Calhoun First UMC has long been a fixture in Gordon County. From the organization of the Calhoun Methodist Episcopal Church in 1852 to the first service in our current location in 1950, Calhoun First UMC has been offering a place for families and individuals alike to worship and grow in their faith.

The 21st century brings with it new opportunities. We realize that people are searching for a church that is culturally relevant and doctrinally sound both in its worship services and other programming. That being the case, we launched the first contemporary worship service by a main line church in Gordon County in September of 2006 and have just completed a renovation of our Sanctuary and our Christian Activities Center to bring our worship facilities into the modern era.

We strive to meet the needs of people - whether its through our children’s program, youth program, adult bible studies, music and worship ministries. You’re surely to find your place at Calhoun First UMC.
